ENGLAND

George Pepperdine introduced in the first letter about his intentions to write the series of world traveling letters. On the first trip, his mother and he went from LA to NY and then to England. Particularly, Mr. Pepperdine mentioned his observations of the city, roads, cars, old buildings, trains and other things of his interest. In this letter, he showed lots of interests at the old and fine buildings with scale and depth. He was impressed by the Tower Bridge, London Tower, Great Cathedrals and so forth. They inspired him to think about the old days. In addition, he showed interests at the English manner of speech. Mr. Pepperdine recorded lots of his observations on the different uses of words and phrases and he believed there were more to learn. Experiencing the variety of architecture, language, culture and currency makes him think deeper about his own country as he mentioned, “the farther one goes among other nations, the more our own country is appreciated.” His traveling made him think about where he was from, which helped him shaped a clearer self-knowledge.
